Born November 5, 1945, Grand Master Billy Lee Burchett began his training in boxing in 1953. He was introduced to Judo when his boxing coach brought the art back from overseas after a tour of duty in the military. Since then, over the past 35+ years, GM Burchett has trained in Hapkido mixing what he learned from boxing and Judo with Hapkido turning it into a unique eclectic workout.

GM Billy Lee has had four Korean Masters and has been with GM In Sun Seo for the last twenty years. He travels to Korea every two years to train with GM In Sun Seo and has attended almost all of GM Seo's U.S. seminars.
GM Burchett moved from Chicago where he owned several schools. Upon moving to Florida GM Burchett could not find a school in which to train so he opened Hapkido Brothers Academy in Clermont, just west of Orlando, where he could share his passion and knowledge with others. Through his instruction he has promoted over one hundred black belts. GM Burchett is "Old School" when it comes to training his students. They train in the Florida heat with NO air conditioning! And in the winter months his students train with NO heat!
Over the past 35 years GM Burchett has become well respected and honored in the martial arts community. He has provided training to military personnel, the federal government, the Chicago Police Department and SWAT members, and Lake County Florida firefighters and Sheriff's department. GM Burchett is available for national and international seminars.
Grandmaster Burchett was appointed the first Florida Regional Director of the World Kido Federation and continues in that position. In April 2007 GM Burchett, along with GM Gary Keller and six other Hapkido Masters, traveled to China to be one of the first to introduce Hapkido to the Chinese martial arts community.
In 2008 GM Burchett was inducted into the U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall of Fame, he was awarded the Hapkido Grandmaster of the Year Award, and he received his Doctorates of Martial Arts Philosophy and Martial Arts Science; Ph D/ Ma. D. Sc. from the University of Asian Martial Arts Studies.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Grandmaster In Sun Seo and all Hapkidoists around the world for their continued contribution to the art of Hapkido. May your journey down the path of life be long."
